May’s Activist Homework

THE ISSUE:

The midterms are 6 months away on November 3 — and the stakes could not be higher. Democrats need to flip three House districts and four Senate seats to take back Congress and stop the Trump Administration. The outcome will come down to voter turnout.

THE ACTION:

Sign up to write postcards to voters in key swing states that encourage them to vote. Your job this month is to place your order — they will arrive in 3-4 weeks.

TOTAL TIME: 10 Minutes

How to sign-up:

Go to turnoutpac.org/postcards and complete the form with the following information:

  • Your name, address, email, and phone number — this is where your postcards will be mailed.
  • How many postcards: Select 100.
  • I want to write postcards to: Select “Where most needed” — Turnout PAC will assign you to the state where your postcards will have the greatest impact. If you have a personal connection to one of the available states, feel free to select it instead.
  • Are you ordering for a grassroots group? Type “The Efficient Activist”

Hit submit and you are done for the month. The postcards are free.

What happens next:

Orders of 100 postcards can take up to 3–4 weeks to arrive, so sign up as soon as possible as I will be asking you to fill them out in the coming months, and purchase 100 postcard postage stamps (61¢ each = $61)

Why postcards?

Turnout PAC’s postcards are shown to boost Democratic turnout by up to 1.3%. That may sound small — but in close races, 1.3% can sway elections.

Vanessa Vote

Republicans are coming after Voter Rolls. Voter rolls list actively registered voters who can vote in an upcoming election within a particular jurisdiction. These lists of registered voters are incredibly important as it informs whether or not a voter can cast a ballot. If your name is not on the voter roll where you plan to vote, you cannot vote. Go to nass.org/can-I-vote to check your Voter Registration Status and make sure you can vote come November.
